Women's Running Series: Nashville Half Marathon

My sister, Katie, and I just returned from an AMAZING sister's weekend in Nashville, where we both ran the Women's Half Marathon!  This was Katie's fifth time running a Half Marathon, and technically my second (but I'm considering it my first time running the whole race because my first Half in 2007 consisted of limping/walking the majority of the race thanks to a knee injury).  Katie and I both had an awesome race and blew our goal times out of the water!

The race started at the Country Music Hall of Fame in downtown Nashville.  There was a lot of enthusiasm and excitement before the start of the race, and a strong sense of camaraderie as well.  Over 2200 women participated in the Half!  We saw several groups of friends, couples, mother-daughter duos, and even a few bachelorette parties.  (And we kept our eyes peeled in case Taylor Swift decided to make an appearance!)

This race offered pacers from the Nashville Striders running club.  I've been reading up on pa…

Glazed Pumpkin Cookies

Happy first day of fall!!  I love absolutely everything about this season -- admiring the bright colors, breathing in the crisp mountain air in the mornings, trading out my flip flops and swim suits for boots and sweaters, watching football games, and enjoying pumpkin-flavored everything!

By the way...  Apparently these exist now.

To get into the fall spirit, I baked some yummy pumpkin cookies this week!  They are super soft and taste just like little pies.

Glazed Pumpkin Cookies

1 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 cup pureed pumpkin
1 medium egg
2 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla

1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup bilk
3 tablespoons butter
1 cup powdered sugar
3/4 tsp vanilla

1.  Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

2.  Prepare the cookies: Cream the butter and sugar in a large bowl.  Add pumpkin and egg and beat well.

3.  In a separate large bowl, sift together remaining dry ingredients and vanilla.  Add to p…

Santa Fe Triathlon

"Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up.  It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed.  Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up.  It knows it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve.  It doesn't matter whether you're the lion or a gazelle; when the sun comes up, you'd better be running."  -Christopher McDougall

Today was our third year participating in the City of Santa Fe Triathlon!  This is a fun tradition and I enjoy the race order of Run-Bike-Swim.  We both had a good race and my hubby placed first in his age group again.  Here's the breakdown of my race:

5K run (time: 25:54):
The race begins with a long, steady downhill for the first mile, then gradually climbs back up to complete the loop.  I started out fast on the downhill, settled into my pace after the first mile, then tried to pass one person at a time during the last uphill portion.  I have really been feeling slow lately because I've been doing a lot o…
